The ethical dilemma of lethal autonomous weapon systems

Prof. Dr. Elmar Nass from the Cologne University of Catholic Theology published an article on the ethical evaluation of lethal autonomous weapon systems (LAWS). Since humanity will not be able to avoid wars in the future, he emphasizes every nation’s right to defend itself against the attacks of aggressors. This includes the right to use all means which are appropriate and necessary to fulfill this right of self-defense. On the other hand, he points out that even any justified use of such systems will probably have devastating consequences. It is therefore never good in itself, but can at best be tolerated as ‘minus malum’.

Methodology and Applications of Christian Leadership Ethics

There are undoubtedly Christian leaders in business. But can or should there be Christian leadership ethics? Elmar Nass, Professor for social and business ethics at the Wilhelm Löhe university for applied sciences, and Ellen Kreuer from the university of Münster unfold a concept, which is based on the biblical conception of man and Christian virtue ethics.

Elmar Nass / Ellen Kreuer: Methodology and Applications of Christian Leadership Ethics. In: Journal of Values-Based Leadership XI (II) 2018: 71-88.
