Due to climate change an ecological renewal of the economic system is necessary. Arnd Küppers thinks that the German Social Market Economy could offer a blueprint. The Social Market Economy is currently not only facing the challenge to combine freedom on the market with social balance, but also to implement sustainability into this concept. In the past, the success of the Social Market Economy was based on its clear regulatory ethical compass and its regulatory political instruments. With its aim for compromise and consensus the Social Market Economy can also make a contribution to the debate about climate change.
